IESCO Presidium Meeting held in Bali Island

December 9, 2012, IESCO presidium meeting was held in Bali Island, Indonesia, which is held once two terms. More than 30 people participated in the meeting, including Jiang Mingjun, the founding president of IESCO, José De Venecia, the Founding Chairman of ICAPP, Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Zhang Deguang, the President of China Foundation for International Studies, Anwarul K. Chowdhury, former UN Under-Secretary-General, Madhav K. Nepal, former Prime Minister of Nepal, Gustavo Carvajal Moreno, Deputy President of COPPPAL, Artur Chiligarov, Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in Arctic and Antarctic Affairs, Anna Tibaijuka, Minister of Land, Resources and Housing of the United Republic of Tanzania, Nalinee Taweesin, Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand, Sheila Copps, former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Mendsaikhan Enkhsaikhan, former Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Secretary-General of CAPDI, James Mancham, Founding President of the Republic of Seychelles, Somawathi Sukarno, Chairwoman of the Sukarno Center, Andrew Abramov, Chief of the Office of UN-ECOSCO Support and Coordination, Keo Puth Reasmey, President of the Funcinpec Party of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Royal Government Advisor Rank Deputy Prime Minister, Banj Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, Director of Monitoring and Research Divison of UN-HABITAT.

At the beginning, Dr. Jiang Mingjun, Director-General of IESCO, reported the achievements IESCO has made since its foundation in international conferences, project cooperation, scientific research, media dissemination, property declaration. In his report, Dr. Jiang pointed out that in the last five years, IESCO has achieved the first five-year plan – “seeking orientation in a stable way”. This year (2012), is the start year of our second five-year plan – “seeking development in a stable way”. IESCO will continue to strengthen ourselves, enlarge our influence, and contribute more to the cause of world ecological safety.

All the participants of the presidium praised highly for Dr. Jing’s report and gave high expectation for IESCO’s future work. For the purpose of maintaining world ecological safety and achieving sustainable development, IESCO signed intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Kingdom of Cambodia, Tanzania, Nigeria and UN-HABITAT.

Presidium meeting established World Ecological Safety Council and elected new members of the presidium. Founding President Dr. Jiang Mingjun was re-elected as the Director-General, José De Venecia, the Founding Chairman of ICAPP, Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Zhang Deguang, the President of China Foundation for International Studies, Anwarul K. Chowdhury, former UN Under-Secretary-General, Madhav K. Nepal, former Prime Minister of Nepal, Gustavo Carvajal Moreno, Deputy President of COPPPAL, Artur Chiligarov, Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in Arctic and Antarctic Affairs, Anna Tibaijuka (Ms), former UN Under-Secretary-General, Resources and Housing of the United Republic of Tanzania, Nalinee Taweesin (Ms.), Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand, Sheila Copps (Ms.), former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Mendsaikhan Enkhsaikhan, former Prime Minister of Mongolia, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Secretary-General of CAPDI, James Mancham, Founding President of the Republic of Seychelles, Somawathi Sukarno, Chairwoman of the Sukarno Center were elected as the Co-President. Meanwhile, Zhang Deguang was elected as the Executive President of the Council of the third WESA, Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia was elected as the intergovernmental Executive President of IESCO.
