IESCO delegation attends 2016 UN Global Compact Leaders Summit

(IESCO reporter: Wang Xiaoping) Jin Xiaoyi, Assistant President of International Ecological Safety Collaborative Organization (IESCO)attended UN Global Compact Leaders Summit held in UN Headquarters on June 22nd, 2016. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon addressed the summit.

He pointed out in his opening remarks that Paris Climate Change Agreement and 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development provided unprecedented opportunities for governments and private sector to create a new economy featuring clean energy and sustainability in response to climate change. Global Compact, with unique advantage and status, helps world enterprises to seize the opportunity of the times and be prepared to make global goals local business.According to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be reached without cooperation, leadership or pioneers. In other words, individuals and enterprises are encouraged to shoulder responsibilities in business and partnership; consumers and inventors are to make right decisions; and everyone should make his/her own voice heard at critical moments. Above all, UN Global Compact contributes to realize all these goals.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon called on global business groups to play a vital role in promoting sustainable development with enthusiasm and to warmly welcome emerging market and solutions. At the same time, enterprises are encouraged to set goals for innovation and investment under the SDGs.

The UN Global Compact was announced by then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in an address to the World Economic Forum in January, 1999 and was officially launched at UN Headquarters in July, 2000. This initiative creates opportunities for corporate citizens to participate in international affairs, to build world reputation and to increase international exchanges under the background of economic globalization.

Dr. Jiang Mingjun, Founding Chairman of IESCO, once served as Executive Officer of UN Global Compact Development Program from 2002 to 2004.
