UN Approved the Statement on Youth Empowerment Submitted by IESCO

(IESCO reporter: Chen Shuang) UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has approved the statement on youth empowerment submitted by International Ecological Safety Collaborative Organization (IESCO), which is being circulated in accordance with paragraphs 30 and 31 of Economic and Social Council resolution 1996/31. According to the statement, youth empowerment is an important task towards sustainable development. Therefore, the Ecological Civilization Committee of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), UN-Habitat and IESCO are planning to initiate the United Nations Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Industrial Park under the framework of the United Nations Youth Empowerment and Urban Ecological Safety Action Plan.

 By supporting and inspiring young innovators and entrepreneurs, the statement will further encourage programs that can create great social, economic and environmental benefits and make them the catalyst to sustainable development; and inspire people to contribute to youth employment, the formulation of poverty alleviation plans, guarantee of ecological safety and sustainable development in the future.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is currently paying a five-day official visit to China, which is his 10th visit to the country as the UN chief. He has met Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and exchanged views on China-UN cooperation and international hot-spot issues. He appreciated China’s leading role in promoting global sustainable development and tackling climate change, and expressed his hope to further cooperate with China in areas such as peace keeping, climate change and sustainable development.
