Brief Introduction
Nowadays, the frequent occurrence of natural disasters like earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions as well as man-made disasters like deforestation, offshore pollution, sharp decreases of wetlands losses, the pollution of water resources, desertification, species extinction, land subsidence in cities, extreme weathers, large floods, serious mudslides, serious droughts, epidemic diseases and grain and food safety triggered by climate change and unsustainable economic activities poses grave threats to human survival and economic development. The occurrence of various disasters has altered the political landscape of the world and exacerbated poverty, which in turn breeds conflicts. Against this backdrop, IESCO was founded in China in July 2006. It was initiated by China, supported by related UN agencies and in compliance with UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In December 2010, IESCO was granted   observer’s status at the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP). In October, 2012, IESCO became an advisory institution of ICAPP and the Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL). In 2013, IESCO co-launched the project of "UN Youth Empowerment and Urban Ecological Safety" with UN-Habitat.
The World Ecological Safety Assembly (Presidium) is the highest authority of IESCO and responsible for examining the principal affairs of the organization. The Executive Committee is the executive body of the Assembly which hosts the World Ecological Safety Assembly and the World Ecological Safety Expo every two years and the Euro-Asia Ecological Safety Conference annually.
