World Daoyuan Ecological Culture and Health Declaration
June 26 to 30, 2012

We, delegates from China, Russia, Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand, Japan, Iraq, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Ethiopia participate in “The Second International Ecological Safety and Elderly Health Forum” in Daoyuan Holy City, Chengdu, China. On the basis of our  consensus on the Initiative in World Daoyuan Ecological Culture and Health released by the First Ecological Safety and Elderly Health Forum in November, 2011, we hereby promulgate the following World Daoyuan Ecological Culture and Health Declaration .
We believe that the root of Chinese traditional culture lies in “Daoism”. The ideas advocated by Lao-tzu, like “unity of human and heaven and Dao follows nature”, “Yin and Yang are balanced; governing by non-action”, “the supreme goodness is like water”, “respecting Dao and honoring virtues” are the centralized reflection of the ecological awareness in Daoism thinking. Daoism thinking is a key part of the Chinese traditional culture and its profound ecological wisdom embodied in dealing with the relationship between human and nature is worth our attention.
We also believe that, the Daoism thinking of “Man follows earth, earth follows heaven, heaven follows Dao, and Dao follows nature” conveys that nature and human both develop according to natural rules and the two should rely on each other and co-exist peacefully. This thinking is the prerequisite to realize the harmonious development of human and nature and global ecological safety today. Daoism aims to reach the state of harmonious coexistence of human and nature and ecological balance, which plays a pivotal role in tackling modern ecological crisis.
We have noticed that over recent years, frequent outbreaks of global natural disasters and ecological crises seriously impacted the living space and health quality of human beings. We should maintain ecological safety, promote health preservation and foster ecological and healthy modes of production and consumption.
We support the initiative of  International Ecological Safety Cooperative Organization and China Foundation for International Studies to  set up the International Ecological Safety Fund committed to sponsoring researches on major subjects in  climate change, ecological safety, sustainable development and improving people’s living environment,  the constructions of tackling climate change, ecological safety and improving public welfare projects as well as international cooperation and cultural exchanges in these areas.
We also support the initiative of World Daoyuan Ecological Cultural Centre to launch “World Daoism Solidarity” in Daoyuan Holy City in Chengdu, China to promote the exchange and transformation of the results in Daoism thinking and academic researches, organize and launch philanthropy and charity activities and enhance ecological safety and sustainable development.
Worshiping nature and Daoism following Nature are not only key characteristics of Daoism thinking, but also the core of new thoughts on ecological safety. Human activities and development must follow natural rules. Otherwise, human and nature cannot co-exist harmoniously.
Let’s join our hands to build an ecological, healthy and harmonious home on the earth.
