Ecological safety incorporated into Declaration
for Global Action on the Mountains and Climate Change

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On 4th April, 2012, Dr. Jiang Mingjun, Director-General of IESCO, Ms. Shan Fengping, Deputy Director-General, Mr. Peng Zhehui, eputy
Secretary-General and Mr. Gao Dehui, a secretary, were invited by Mr. Hemraj Tater, Minister for Environment, Government of Nepal to articipate in the International Expert Consultation on Mountains and Climate Change in Himalaya Hotel, Kathmandu. Government representatives from Nepal, India, China, Bhutan, Yemen, Bolivia, Britain, USA, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Chile, Peru, Italy, Japan, ajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia and experts on climate from UK Department for International Development, USA Department for International Development, EU, UNDP, WMO, IESCO and ICIMOD had discussions about the impact and solutions of climate change on high mountain countries. Suggested by Dr. Jiang Mingjun, ecological safety and sustainable development were incorporated into the Action Statement of
Mountain Countries on Climate Change.
The International Expert Consultation on Mountains and Climate Change was chaired by Mr. Krishna Gyawali, Secretary-General, Ministry of Environment, Government of Nepal.
