Attending the Sixth World Urban forum

      The Sixth World Urban Forum was held in Naples, Italy from September 1st to 6th, 2012. Thousands of representatives and UN-Habitat partners attended the forum. 18 delegates from IESCO, led by Founding President and Director General Jing Mingjun, Deputy Director-General Tee Ching Seng and Assistant Director-General Shan Fengping, attended the forum and the session on Youth Employment, Trade and Job Creation.
      The World Urban Forum, created by UN-Habitat and held once every two years, is the highest forum on world urban development and the most important conference on global human settlements. It is one of the three most influential forums organized by the United Nations, together with “World Economic Forum” and “World Social Forum”.
      This forum deals with a wide range of issues, including energy, environment, land, housing, infrastructure, sanitary, education, health, safety, and slum rebuilding, which are the most pressing problems that the world is facing now on human settlements. The forum, themed “The Urban Future”, is set to remind people all how fast the world is urbanizing and we should plan cities better, ensure sound urban legislation and governance, and improve basic service delivery and housing, as well as promoting equal development of the youth.
      During the session, representatives from IESCO made keynote speeches, including Mr. Jiang Mingjun, President of IESCO, Mr. Tee Ching Seng, Deputy Director-General of IESCO, Ms. Shan Fengping Assistant Director-General of IESCO, Ms. Gao Qinghong, Head of International Training Base of Techniques and Skills of IESCO, Ms. Lin DongMei, Vice-director of China National Engineering Research Center of JUNCAO Technology, Mr. Li Porong, Director of Rural Development Committee of IESCO and Sum Tung Hing, and received warm responses.
      In the session on Youth in the Prosperity of Cities, IESCO presented 2011 China’s Urban Youth Report with the Youth Sector of UN-Habitat, which focuses on China’s youth mobility and urban equal prosperity. Meanwhile, UN-Habitat released State of the Urban Youth Report 2012-2013.
