Talks on "Kigamboni New City" in Tanzania

    (IESCO News by Duan Ying) On February 6, 2014, Director-General of IESCO Jiang Mingjun had talks with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development of Tanzania in Dar-es-Salaam on the project of "the construction of Kigamboni New City". Minister of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development of Tanzania Anna K. Tibaijuka and other officials of the ministry were present at the talks.

    Minister Anna K. Tibaijuka affirmed the significance of the construction of Kigamboni New City. She pointed out that Kigamboni represents the future of Dar-es-Salaam. She expected the site choosing, planning, positioning, and investment of the new city to proceed as soon as possible with the active participation of IESCO.

    Dr. Jiang Mingjun said that Anna K. Tibaijuka had made great contributions to strengthening international cooperation, eliminating urban poverty, and improving the living environment of people as as Under-Secretary-General of UN and Director of UN Habitat, and was still endeavoring to build new international cities. IESCO will bring advanced ecological skill training techniques to the construction of Kigamboni New City to improve the urbanization level and push forward the urbanization progress in hands with the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development in Tanzania.

     The project of "The Construction of Kigamboni New City" was initiated by Tanzanian government in 2013, and IESCO was officially invited to take part in the project in August, 2013. Last talk between the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development of Tanzania and IESCO on the project was in August, 2013.
