Ecological Civilization Committee of UN Alliance of Civilizations

UN Alliance of Civilizations was launched and initiated by Spain and Turkey Governments which aims to mobilize the international society through dialogues and communication to eliminate bias among different civiliza- tions, to dissolve misunderstandings and conflicts, and to promote peace and safety.

In recent years, works of UN Alliance of Civilizations have been appraised and supported by the international society, which shows the best vision of countries to safeguard world peace and security. At the 5th conference of UN Alliance of Civilizations in 2013, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called on the international society to take concrete actions by building “bridge of trust” among different civilizations to promote peace and security. He pointed out, “Intolerance brings horrible impact to the world and many attacks and killings are in the name of religion.” He also said, “It seems easy to build bridge of trust, to realize forgiveness and to promote the harmony among different civilizations, but when it comes to action, it would be much more difficult.” He stressed that, UN Alliance of Civilizations was an important way to crack down on extremism, splittism and terrorism and to elimi- nate disagreement, which is not only a beneficial supplement for the execution of the anti-terrorism strategy passed by UN General Assembly, but also a good support for UN to carry out preventive diplomacy and promote sustain- able development. He also stressed that it was more important than ever to carry out constructive dialogues between individuals, countries, nations and cultures. UN Alliance of Civilizations’ working policy is to improve exchange and understanding among different cultures through education, immigration and employment. In order to imple- ment this policy, the 5th conference of UN Alliance of Civilizations proposed many specific suggestions and meas- ures. First is to establish experts’ rapid response mechanism to answer questions for media when “serious trans- border crisis” happens; second is to establish an emissaries’ network consists of celebrities of different countries. Government of Qatar will invest $100 million in developing youth employment training plan and Jordan will offer $20 million to support trans-culture exchanges.
